Guild Wars 2 is a very approachable game but there’s still a lot of things I wish someone had told me beforehand. I’ll fully admit that structured PvP and open-world PvP remains a mystery to me, so this guide focuses on the base PvE game.
Race makes a big difference in how your character will look, of course, but it also makes a big impact in determining the early hours of the game. Guild Wars 2 lets you visit any racial starting zone, but completing your “personal story” requires a lot of time spent in your specific areas. If you can handle being a giant anthropomorphic cat, the Charr storyline and zones are my favorite, but even the best “single-player” parts of the story are dull without friends, and pale to the dynamic world events constantly cycling in the various zones.
